GENERAL TIPS FOR ALL PLANTS
Louisiana Tree Service is here to help you understand the essential basics of keeping your trees and plants healthy, strong, and looking their best year-round.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
All plants in Louisiana benefit from proper watering practices that account for frequent rain and extreme heat. Water deeply but less often to encourage strong root growth, and always check soil moisture before adding water. Poor drainage is a common issue, so planting in raised beds or well-draining soil can prevent root rot during wet seasons.

Soil quality and fertilization play a major role in plant health. Many Louisiana soils lack key nutrients, so soil testing can help determine proper fertilizer needs. Use slow-release fertilizers and avoid over-fertilizing, which can burn roots and encourage excessive, weak growth—especially during hot months.

Seasonal care is also important. Plants should be mulched to protect roots from heat and sudden cold snaps, and planting should be timed for spring or fall when stress is lower. Choosing native or climate-adapted plants helps reduce maintenance and increases survival in Louisiana’s climate.
